Once you know you have herpes, sexual contact during outbreaks needs to be avoided, and safe sex needs to be practiced at all other times -- something like 3/4 of herpes sufferers get the disease from partners who have no visual signs of an outbreak. Valtrex can also be used in the treatment of cold sores. Valtrex is taken in oral tablet form -- little blue pills. For cold sores, the normal treatment is 2 doses of 2000mg. People report good results when they take Valtrex when they feel a cold sore forming but before it has broken the surface. Again, your doctor can help you decide the proper treatment for your symptoms.For genital herpes, your doctor will normally prescribe a treatment of 1000mg of Valtrex, twice a day for the first 7-10 days of your initial treatment. Ongoing breakouts are normally treated with 500mg pills for several days. For chronic herpes problems, some patients will take Valtrex pills daily to help suppress the virus and minimize its impact. Valtrex Cost - Side EffectsLike all drugs and medications, Valtrex can cause some unwanted side effects, like vomiting, nausea, headaches, dizziness, and constipation. You should always consult with your doctor if you discover any side effects or problems when taking a new drug, and inform them of any other medications you might be taking that might interact with the new drug. If you have immune system problems or kidney problems, your doctor may need to change your dosage or not prescribe Valtrex at all. How much does Valtrex cost? It is not cheap - each pill can cost $6-$10 (500mg vs. 1000mg). Valtrex offers a daily advantage program that saves you $10 per monthly subscription (valtrex.com). If you are looking to buy Valtrex online, do some price comparisons first and only buy from licenses US or Canadian pharmacies (too many problems with counterfeit pills overseas, hard to verify what you are actually buying). All legitimate online pharmacies will require a valid doctors prescription for all prescription drugs. If someone is offering to sell you presctiption drugs without a prescription, be skeptical and careful. We found prices for Valtrex of $3-$4 per 500mg tablet when purchased in quantities of 36, and about $5-$6 for the 1000mg pills.
